Roberto Ottaviano appointed President of the National Federation Il Jazz Italiano.

The Federazione Nazionale Il Jazz Italiano announces that has been appointed as its new president, taking over the role that has been held over the past three years with passion and dedication by Ada Montellanico. Internationally renowned musician, composer and leading figure on the cultural scene, Roberto Ottaviano will lead the Federation towards new perspectives

Nel suo discorso di insediamento, il Presidente Ottaviano expressed his deep gratitude and outlined his vision for his term of office: ‘My profound thanks go to Paolo Fresu, Ada Montellanico and the entire team that has built and directed this complex and indispensable reality that is the Federation so far, and of course to all those who have placed their trust and support in me for the future Presidency. Aside from the gratification for this recognition, I would like to stress that I feel it is a priority to continue pursuing a necessary harmony in a world that is made up of many different souls. Today’s context opens up to new overlapping reflections, increasing challenges, and a great deal of work still to be done, but I am certain and confident that by putting music and all the useful tools at the centre of our mission so that it can emerge with all its variety, richness, and ability to unite an important tradition together with a vision of the future in the utmost expression of the contemporary, in the best and virtuous blend of generations and skills, we will not only reach the desired landfalls, but the journey will be adventurous and fulfilling’.

These words are joined by the statements of the Honorary President and first President of the Federation, Paolo Fresu, who expressed his support and recognition for the new President: ‘After six years since its birth, with the presidencies of myself and Ada Montellanico, the Italian Jazz Federation will continue its journey under the leadership of Roberto Ottaviano. Musician, composer, teacher and intellectual, he will be the one to direct it, strengthening IJI as a fundamental instrument for the growth of Italian jazz and stimulating a reflection on our music and its relationship with the world. An open, heterogeneous and multifaceted reflection that will have to touch upon the themes of politics, humanity, research, learning and creativity. Thus triggering a discussion on the role of art in society, strengthening and cementing the relationship with the institutions and the world of education, and fostering dialogue between the multiple realities that make it up. As a friend and Honorary President to Roberto goes my esteem and best wishes’.
