Senate approves the anti-piracy draft law to protect copyright

On July 12, 2023 the draft law no. 621 bearing “Provisions for the prevention and suppression of the unlawful dissemination of content protected by copyright via electronic communications networks“, already approved by the Chamber of Deputies, has obtained the definitive go-ahead from the Senate

The draft law was unanimously passed to the Senate of the Republic. The text voted in the House gives new powers to the Italian Communications Authority (AGCOM) to block platforms that illegally broadcast live events, including sports, film premieres and entertainment programmes. In response to the notification of the rights holders, the Authority is given the power to order, with “timely” intervention within 30 minutes, the immediate blacking out of the site that illegally transmits the content.
